What the past year has taught me, and what the world is currently experiencing, is that life is unpredictable. Life is full of unknowns. We can try to plan the future, we can set goals and have dreams and aspirations, but the reality is, we have no idea what the future holds or how our life will unfold. We have no control over what might happen in the next year, the next day and even the next moment. So the key is to let go of attachment and expectations and just surrender to the present moment. Humanity is currently being forced to go inwards. We are being asked to re-evaluate our priorities and to re-align with who we want to be. We have the chance to reconsider what is important to us, what we spend our energy on, and to relook at the way we consume, the way we interact with one another, and the way we live our day-to-day lives. We are being reminded that we are part of a bigger picture and our individual actions affect the collective. But in order to make any positive change in the world, we need to work on ourselves first. It starts with our own internal work and tuning into our inner voice and what personal habits of ours need to be changed. We are being asked to surrender to the present moment. Most of us take our health and relationships for granted and we save ‘opportunities’ for a later date or suppress present-moment emotions to protect ourselves from what “could go wrong in the future.” We allow our fears to stop us from fully living life in the here and now. But what I am continuing to learn, is that there is no other moment than the present- it is the only thing that is real. We don’t know and we never will know what the future holds. And as much fear and anxiety resides in the unknown, there is the same, and even a greater amount, of opportunities and possibilities for growth and positive change. So right now our greatest task is to ask ourselves: how do we find stability when everything around us feels so unstable? How do we go inwards to find our center and to find stillness amidst all the outside chaos? How can we practice finding comfort in the quiet and in the unknown? How do we accept the state of humanity and shift our mindset to find the good and the positive? Where can we choose to inhibit fear and anxiety from taking over our thoughts and actions? Where can we become more mindful of our habits and cultivate a deeper awareness that our world is completely interconnected? How can we use this time to reconnect to what is truly important in life and to re-evaluate our priorities? How can we tune into presence and practice surrendering? How can we give ourselves permission to go “inside” and simply rest? We have the choice to turn anything we experience as “negative” into some sort of positive. Life is too short. Life is too unpredictable. We don’t know what the future holds. So let’s work together to spread as much love, good vibes and positivity as we can.
