I am grateful for: road trips (& the metaphor it is for life)

I’ve realized Life, well at least the way I live mine, is one big road trip, one long adventure, one exciting journey.
Just like a road trip, in life there are different stops, different places to go depending on the phase of life. Each stop has its own environment, its own culture & characteristics that make it unique & special. Each stop is filled with new faces, new places, new life lessons & new reasons to feel appreciation and gratitude.
Road tripping highlighted the impermanence of life circumstances and showed me how exciting uncertainty & the unknown can actually be if we shift our mindset to let it.
It strengthened my ability to “readjust” & acclimate to new environments no matter how comfortable I get in any given place.
It reminded me that although I make decisions with intention, I have no idea what’s actually in store for me. I can plan where I’m going, what I want to do, who I want to meet, but the truth is, life is full of surprises and if I hold on too tightly to my “plan” of how things “should be”, I may miss out on something even better.
Road tripping reminded me how important it is to stay present, to connect to the environments I’m in & really BE there-whether it’s a vibrant city or peaceful nature.
Road tripping connected me back to the importance of simplicity and stillness. How I don’t need so many distractions because there is so much richness to be found by something as simple as looking out the window to take in my surroundings.
Most of all, it reminded me of the importance of savoring the journey, instead of rushing to the end destination.
Because the journey is where Life happens- the spontaneous adventures, the eclectic people, the cities full of diverse culture, the beautiful sites, meaningful memories, yummy food.
Life really is one big road trip. And if we change our perspective to see it as such, we can savor & enjoy all the stops along the way.
