There is a lot I am learning about Rosh Hashanah this year!!!

After a call last night with a friend and his Rabbi, I learned that Rosh Hashanah is a holiday where we ask the Light (or whatever word connects most to you) for personal requests-our wants, wishes and desires for the coming year.

But the key here is that our requests aren’t meant to be egoic or self-centered. They are meant to be requests that will enhance and elevate our life, the lives of those around us, and deepen our connection to the Light.

They are meant to contribute to the greater good of all.

So this holiday essentially asks us to stop and think about not only what we want, but the why behind it- what is the greater purpose of our desire that contributes to the highest and greatest good not just for me, but for all?

It is about receiving for the sake of giving. Receiving in order to give and share more love, light, joy, connection and goodness.

“Rosh” means the head. So this time not only marks the beginning of a new year, but it is an energetic time that leads the year and serves as an indicator of how the rest of the year will go.

Just like our head/mind dictates the actions/behaviors of our body, so does this time of the year.

This year, I am back in Israel for the holidays and for once not traveling around, but staying put in one place to focus on settling into this next chapter.

I’ve chosen to take this time of celebrating in the homeland to really connect to the upcoming Jewish holidays not necessarily from a religious perspective, but from a spiritual and energetic perspective.

To learn how I can bring the meaning of Rosh Hashanah into my practical, day to day, life.

To use this time to be intentional about how I want this new year and new chapter to look.

To take moments to pause and reflect on what it is I truly want and the why behind it.

So no matter where you are in the world, how you choose to connect to the holidays or if you even celebrate them at all, I encourage you to take a moment to ask yourself:

  1. What do you want/wish/desire/request for this upcoming year?

  2. How do your wants help to elevate and enhance your life in order to elevate and enhance the lives of others as well?

  3. What type of energy/intentions do you want to lead this new year with?

Chag Sameach and Shana Tova- have the sweetest new year!!!!!!!!!!!
